Drink Up: Why Water is Essential for the Maintenance of Healthy Skin

We’ve all been reminded how important it is to drink a plentiful amount of water. It is well known that the daily consumption of water is great for our physical health and mental well-being and it seems that its benefits are limitless. Not only does water help our digestive and circulatory systems, but its consumption is also associated with the elimination of harmful toxins from our bodies and it can lower the risk of kidney disease.

Water is great for our internal health, but it benefits our external appearance as well. That’s why it is important to consider the consistent drinking of water to be an essential part of your skincare routine, as it helps us to maintain a healthy, glowing complexion.

Our skin is the largest organ in our body. It protects us from the heat and the cold and keeps our internal organs in their appropriate places. Our skin grows faster than any other organ and up to 70% of it is made of water.

The water in our bodies must be continuously replenished, as it is excreted from our bodies throughout the day (such as through sweating). As our skin cells are made up of water, they must stay hydrated in order for us to maintain a healthy, glowing appearance. But skin hydration cannot be fully controlled by topical creams and moisturizers; it must be treated from the inside as well. The best natural method suggested to hydrate your skin is to drink water. When we drink a plentiful amount of water, we allow our skin to achieve its optimum skin moisture level and we continuously deliver essential nutrients to our skin cells. Since water works to plump and smooth out your skin and increase its elasticity levels, proper skin hydration helps to prevent wrinkles, fine lines and other classic signs of aging. This means that if your skin is not properly hydrated, you may begin to look older than you actually are.

It is recommended that you drink up to two litres of water per day in order to keep your skin looking healthy and youthful. But make sure that you do not drink too much water all at once! You must appropriately distribute your water consumption throughout the day in order to prevent overhydration.

It must be understood that the consumption of too much water in a short period of time can lead to serious and damaging side effects, such as the swelling of body cells or a destructive increase of pressure on the brain

You should, however, be able to avoid the consequences of overhydration by tracking your daily consumption of water. It is recommended to drink no more than one litre of water per hour, as that is the maximum amount of fluid that your kidneys are able to filter within that amount of time.

As stated above, drinking water has numerous benefits. It is one of the healthiest and most accessible fluids available, and in addition to treating your skin, drinking water will also benefit your hair, since a hydrated scalp helps to eliminate dandruff and other dry skin irritants. Just keep in mind that the more water you gift your body, the faster your skin and hair cells will stay hydrated and replenish, leaving you with glowing skin, a youthful complexion, and healthy hair.
